VOLUNTEER

Fallbrook is a census-designated place (CDP), meaning it's recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau as a populated area but doesn't have its own municipal government. That means that services in Fallbrook come from nonprofits, committees and community service districts. Our community is responsible for caring for and growing our open spaces and preserves.

Volunteers are at the heart of the Fallbrook Land Conservancy’s mission. While FLC owns and protects thousands of acres of open space, it’s our dedicated volunteers who help keep these preserves healthy, beautiful, and safe for the community to enjoy.

Our volunteers:

  • Maintain trails by clearing brush, repairing erosion, and keeping paths safe for hikers.

  • Restore native habitat through planting, watering, and removing invasive species.

  • Monitor wildlife and vegetation, helping track the health of local ecosystems.

  • Clean up preserves and public access areas to keep them welcoming for visitors.

  • Serve as ambassadors, sharing conservation values with hikers, neighbors, and local schools.

  • This group meets on Wednesday mornings at a local preserve to restore, maintain and enhance the native plant species. This group is a great opportunity if you’re looking for some body movement for a good cause. There are different tasks for any skill level.

  • Missing the green thumb? If you’re looking for more hiking and less gardening, our trails committee helps to restore the trails and habitats by picking up trash and keeping the pathways clear. The trail maintenance location changes as needed but the regular volunteer days are scheduled for the third Saturday of every month from 8:30 to 10:30.

  • This group is responsible for the blossoming reforesting around Fallbrook. They plan, plant and care for the trees in our community. By creating our own nursery, we’ve been able to grow and cultivate a supply of trees that have revegetated many of the FLC preserves. Perhaps a lesser known volunteer group here in town, the Save Our Forest group may be responsible for some of your favorite local trees.

  • Fallbrook Land Conservancy plants the seeds of conservation in the next generation through the Save Our Forest Environmental Education Program. As part of our mission to engage the community, we partner with local public schools to foster awareness and stewardship of our preserves.

Save Our Forest presents an environmental education program in cooperation with the Fallbrook Unified and Vallecitos Elementary School Districts. Each year, seven schools in the district participate in the program, which is presented in two phases.

  • The Fallbrook Land Conservancy’s Wildlife Sculpture Garden is dedicated to featuring wildlife native to California. It presently has nine life size sculptures, ranging from a mountain lion to a covey of quail. FLC Volunteers generously give their time to do most of the renovation work on Tuesdays at 10 am.

  • The FLC Dark Sky Committee is dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of Fallbrook’s night skies by reducing light pollution and promoting responsible outdoor lighting practices.

We are always looking for volunteers and community partners who share our passion for protecting Fallbrook’s night skies. Whether you’d like to help with outreach events, educational programs, or community lighting improvement projects, there are many ways to participate. If you are part of a local organization, school, or homeowners association (HOA) and would like our committee to give a presentation about the FLC’s Dark Sky Initiative and the importance of responsible outdoor lighting, we would love the opportunity to share what we’re doing and how your group can get involved.

  • The FLC has several other volunteer Committees that support our operations, including Membership, Fundraising, Events,  and Acquisitions.  In addition, the FLC needs ambassadors in the community at events like Fallbrook Summer Nights, the Harvest Faire, and community meetings.  We also occasionally have office work that volunteers could complete.
