FAQs
What are your hours?
Los Jilgueros Preserve is open from 6am to 6pm. All other preserves are open from dawn to dusk.
What trails can I hike on?
Check out our trails, here.
Looking to access a different preserve? Please contact us for more information!
Are bikes or horses allowed on our trails?
Bikes and horses are allowed on Pico Monserate, Horse Creek Preserve and San Marcos Highlands. Please follow trail right of way rules to ensure safety for all users. Trail etiquette and safety can be found here. E-bikes are not allowed on our preserves at this time.
Are dogs allowed on our trails?
Yes! Leased dogs are allowed on our open preserves. Please be prepared to clean up after your pet and pack your own doggy-bags. If you’re not near a trash can, we kindly ask you pack it out with you.
Why do you close and lock the preserves?
Closing at night helps keep visitors safe, protects wildlife during their most active hours, and prevents damage to the land we all enjoy.
As a general rule, we give 12 hours for humans and 12 hours for our animal friends.
What happens if I’m locked in at night?
If your vehicle is inside the gate when it’s locked at night, your vehicle may be stuck until the gates reopen the next day. If a visitor is accidentally locked in, it is best to call for a ride. We post hours and preserve times clearly as we can not guarantee a preserve manager will be able to accommodate arrangements after dark.
Is the park closed when it’s raining?
Our trails are open during light rain events however it’s at the preserve manager’s discretion to close trails due to extreme weather/fire risk, safety concerns or for trail protection. Before heading out, it’s always wise to check our website and socials for updates or alerts.
Who do I call if I have seen a sick, injured, or dead animal?
Great question, our wildlife page has resources and instructions on how to handle animals in the wild.
How is Fallbrook Land Conservancy funded?
Most of the trail maintenance is funded through the generosity of our preserve users, members and donors. FLC also has endowment funds specific to management of certain properties. FLC receives no recurring funding from local, state, or federal sources, though FLC does pursue grant funding for special projects.
How can I help?
You can help by donating, dropping your spare change into the drop boxes on your next hike or volunteering your time! Every penny counts and every hand makes a difference.
