ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
To engage local students in outdoor learning and conservation ethics, this volunteer-led program reaches students in 4th and 5th grades, cultivating the next generation of environmental advocates.
Fallbrook Land Conservancy plants the seeds of conservation in the next generation through the Save Our Forest Environmental Education Program. As part of our mission to engage the community, we partner with local public schools to foster awareness and stewardship of our preserves.
The first year, fourth grade students hear a brief presentation in the classroom, which includes the following:
- The benefits of trees and shrubs in providing a more healthful environment.
- The importance of conserving water by planting native and drought tolerant plants.
- The importance of giving back to your community as a volunteer.
The students then learn to plant seedlings in one-gallon containers that are nurtured and maintained in our nursery. The following year, these same students, now fifth-graders, travel to a local Fallbrook Land preserve where they plant the native plants as part of a habitat restoration project. During the field trip, students also take a nature walk in the preserve, learning about the plants and animals they are helping and becoming oriented to the trail system. Students are invited to return to the preserve and share their new knowledge of the local ecosystem with their families, spread the message even further.
Thank you San Diego County Employees' Charitable Organization for the generous grant funds to purchase new tools for the Environmental Education Program!
