Fallen Heroes Remembrance

Remembering the Heroes. Honoring Their Sacrifice.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001 and the 343 firefighters who perished, Fallbrook Land Conservancy is proud to host the 9/11 Memorial Hike at Monserate Mountain on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Join us as we come together to remember the lives lost, honor the courage of first responders and service members, and reflect on the resilience with unity that emerged in the days that followed.

To help with safety and orientation, in 2018 trail markers were installed on two trails, including a set of markers (A1-A11) that also serve to honor the floors of the Twin Towers. The preserve’s trail is fairly steep: the main route to the summit gains substantial elevation (around 1,200-1,300 feet) over about 1.5 miles, and rewards hikers with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Peninsular (Agua Tibia) Range to the east. Along the way, the flora includes coastal sage scrub and chaparral, with spring wildflowers, native aromatic plants (like white sage and California sagebrush), and wildlife including sensitive species such as the California Gnatcatcher.

Participants will gather for a brief patriotic ceremony before hiking together to honor the memory of those affected by the tragic events of 9/11.

Whether you have a personal connection to that day or simply wish to pay tribute, we invite you to join us in this meaningful tradition.

As we climb together, we remember the courage shown in the face of adversity and reaffirm our commitment to supporting one another and preserving the values that unite us.
